Using a computer headset inside
the eMindful online classroom
First, plug in your computer headset and adjust it to fit comfortably on
your head. Upon successfully logging into the eMindful online classroom
(refer to Access Instructions), you will be invited to join an Integrated VoIP
session as shown below. Do you want to participate? Click on Yes
A Volume window will appear (yellow arrow). Click on the X (red arrow) to close the window. Note: If this is your first time joining the online classroom, you may be prompted to go through the Speaker Microphone Audio Test (details for this test are outlined below).
Testing Your Computer Headset Microphone
Now click on the Audio menu (yellow arrow). From the drop down, click on Leave Conference (green arrow). This action will end the audio conference and your headset microphone icon (blue arrow) will disappear.
Click on the Audio menu and select Speaker Microphone Audio Test (yellow arrow). Note: there should be no microphone icon showing to the left of your name (blue arrow).
A Speaker/Microphone Audio Test window will now appear (yellow arrow). The first test is a Speaker test. Put on your headset and click the Test button (green arrow). If you are able to hear sound in your headset, proceed with the microphone test. If you do not hear anything, check to make sure that the sound settings on the computer and headset are not muted then choose another speaker from the drop down menu (red arrow). Then retest.
INow with your headset on and the microphone about one inch from your mouth, speak into your microphone. As you are speaking, a green line should be bouncing from left to right on the audio line (blue arrow) and green lines coming out of the microphone icon (red arrow). If you are not seeing green lines showing activity, then choose another microphone from the drop down menu (yellow arrow) and retest. Congratulations…click OK (green arrow).
Click on the Audio menu (yellow arrow). From the drop down, click on Join Conference (green arrow). This action starts the audio conference again!
After the host passes microphone privileges to you, you should see audio activity (yellow arrow) in the Volume window as well as in the lower right corner in the Speak now indictor line (blue arrow) as you talk into your microphone.
You can mute your microphone by checking the Mute box (yellow arrow). The microphone icon just to the left of your name should now have a small red x in the upper right corner as shown (blue arrow).
