Managed Health Care Leader Hyman R. Kahn, MD Joins eMindful Board of Directors
Former U.S. Healthcare executive joins fast growing wellness company
Vero Beach, FL (PRWEB) September 21, 2011 Having secured its first round of institutional funding, eMindful has added former U.S. Healthcare executive Hyman R. Kahn, MD, to its board of directors.
Kahn served as a senior vice president for nine years with U.S. Healthcare, and for eight of those years as the company’s senior medical director. He has held executive positions for over a decade with HMO Pennsylvania, where he served both as medical director and president of the organization’s IPA. He also has served as a medical consultant to Aetna U.S. Healthcare, and is on numerous health care company boards.
“Mindfulness training gives people the capacity to change habits that are harmful such as smoking, drinking, poor eating habits, and other lifestyle choices. People often want to change but prior to mindfulness training don't have the capacity, or the tools, to alter their lifestyle choices successfully.” noted Dr. Kahn. “No one else has combined eMindful’s science-based approach to mind body wellness with an interactive, Internet-based classroom for employers. I’m looking forward to contributing to this company’s growth and development.”
“Stress is often cited as being at the root of health care costs, lost productivity, and poor lifestyle choices. But it isn’t the stress, per se, it’s the lack of tools for managing stress that is the real issue,” says Kelley McCabe, CEO of eMindful. “We’re glad to have a board member with Dr. Kahn’s experience, and expertise, who also understands the important role lifestyle choices, and stress, play in determining well-being.”
eMindful has been building its board and management team since closing an equity funding round this summer with MBF Healthcare Partners, L.P., a private equity firm dedicated to the healthcare sector.
eMindful provides employers with evidence-based, sustainable behavioral change programs for reducing stress, changing damaging health behaviors, improving chronic conditions, lowering health care costs and increasing employee productivity. eMindful has partnered with Duke University Health System to develop its evidence-based programs steeped in scientific research.
