Body Imagery – Ending Obesity and Eating Disorders is a six-week online class, taught by Alysa Zalma, M.D., designed to help men and women achieve a healthier, more mindful relationship with their bodies and with food. Through a novel and multidisciplinary approach that combines western medical expertise with eastern holistic healing practice, The BodyImagery Program utilizes as one of its key interventions, Guided Imagery experiences, that combine the power of mediation and music to allow its participants to become more mindful in their relationship with their bodies and with food.
By the end of the Body Imagery Program, participants will have undergone training and experiences that will:
1. Allow themselves to re-learn hunger/satiety signals to be more able to eat when hungry and stop eating when full.
2. Develop new, less destructive patterns of eating.
3. Develop new, less destructive images of how they see their bodies and how they feel others see them by learning and utilizing BodyImagery Guided Imagery techniques.
4. Begin to internalize newer images of body that continue to reinforce less destructive eating patterns and reinforce stronger, healthier images of body and self.
5. Deconstruct why they eat other than when physiologically hungry (when anxious, sad, etc) and how to develop more mindful ways of “feeding” these hungers.
6. Develop more of a sense of trust and mindfulness that their bodies will become and remain the weight that is healthiest for them.
7. Understand how to re-learn polarizing experiences of food and body as “good” or “bad”.
8. Develop the understanding that mindful choices around eating informs mindful experiences in other spheres of life such as personal relationships, professional pursuits and sense of overall happiness and security. (How one eats is how one creates one’s world).
